How to Make an AI-Built Website Look Human-Designed

The design habits that give away AI-generated sites, and how to fix each one.

StackPrompt Team1 min read

You can usually spot an AI-generated website in about three seconds. Purple gradient, a headline that says "Unlock the power of", three identical cards with icons, and a row of logos from companies that have never heard of the business. None of these are wrong on their own. Together they signal that nobody made a decision.

Pick one direction and commit

Human designers choose. An editorial site uses a strong serif and lots of white space. A developer tool might use a monospace accent and a dark interface. A bakery might use warm paper tones and hand-drawn details. Decide which one you are before touching anything else.

Fix the typography first

Swap the default font for a pairing with character: one display face for headlines, one readable face for body text. Set a real type scale and keep line length between 60 and 75 characters. This single change does more than any illustration.

Break the symmetry

AI layouts center everything and give every section the same height. Real layouts vary rhythm: a wide image, then a narrow text column, then a dense grid. Left-align your body text. Let one element break the grid on purpose.

Rewrite the copy in plain words

Delete "seamless", "elevate", "revolutionize" and "cutting-edge". Write the way the founder would explain the product to a friend. Use specific numbers only if they are real. Replace fake testimonials with a note to add real ones.

Sweat the small details

Proper focus states, a useful footer with an address, a real 404 page, consistent spacing. These are the things people notice without knowing they noticed. Our free "Humanize Any AI-Built Website" prompt walks through all of this in one go.
